CEU -IAS invites applications for its core fellowship program for the academic year 2012-13.
Fellowships are available in all areas of the social sciences and humanities. Fellows have access to all CEU facilities, including seminar and conference space, computer services, and library resources. CEU-IAS facilitates the fellows’ engagement with the CEU and Hungarian scholarly community by encouraging collaborative projects, organizing joint public lectures, establishing studentmentorship programs, and related activities.
Fellowships are highly competitive and fellows are chosen through a rigorous selection process. The Selection Committee will primarily consider the quality of the research proposal as well as the applicant’s proven track record or promise of scholarly productivity. Fellows must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent in the social sciences or humanities at the time of their application. CEU graduates and employees are not eligible to apply for 6 years after the ending of their studies/contract.

Франко-российский центр гуманитарных и общественных наук в Москве
предлагает стипендии на краткосрочные командировки (1 месяц) для аспирантов и
молодых исследователей (до 35 лет): докторов (Франция, Молдавия) и кандидатов
наук (Россия, Украина, Белоруссия). Стипендии предназначены для поддержки научных
проектов во Франции, России, Белоруссии, Молдавии и Украине (полевые
исследования, работа в библиотеках и архивах).
Стипендия в размере 1300 евро предназначена для покрытия транспортных
расходов и расходов на проживание сроком на один месяц. Кроме того, Центр
помогает получить визы для приезда в Москву или во Францию, а также логистическую поддержку в Москве (помощь в
поиске жилья, письма для записи в библиотеки и пр.).
Приоритет будет отдаваться проектам,
связанным с франко-российскими отношениями либо изучением другой страны (например,
России для французов или Франции для россиян).

Call for Papers: "Vladimir Sorokin’s Languages: Mediality, Interculturality, Translation”

Since coming to the attention of a broader Russian public in the wake of the scandal whipped up around "Goluboe salo” [The Blue Lard] in 2002, Vladimir Sorokin (born 1955) has become indisputably one of the most prominent and prolific writers in contemporary Russia. Whereas Sorokin’s works are widely discussed in Russia and in the German-speaking countries (the first and hitherto only Sorokin conference took place in Mannheim in 1997), there is still scant research devoted to his oeuvre in the Anglo-American world. Since the translation of "Ochered’” [The Queue] in 1986, it has taken a quarter of a century for further books by Sorokin to be translated into English ("Den’ oprichnika” [Day of the Oprichnik] and the "Led” [Ice] trilogy, 2011).
Taking translation as an anchoring point, this conference is devoted to the multifaceted dimensions of language(s) in Sorokin’s works, including archaisms and neologisms, German and Chinese terms or intercultural stereotypes. Even more important, the discussions will focus on the (meta)linguistic constituents of Sorokin’s poetics: the author as a medium for other discourses, the plurality of conceptualised literary styles, the metadiscursive distance and the materialisation of metaphors from colloquial and vulgar language.
After a keynote lecture, to be delivered by Mark Lipovetsky (confirmed) on the evening of Thursday 29 March, the subsequent one-and-a-half days will consist of academic papers in English by international scholars (20 min + 10 min discussion for each paper). Vladimir Sorokin himself will join in on Saturday afternoon (31 March, confirmed) to meet his translators, who will engage in a discussion about the challenge of translating his works into other linguistic and cultural contexts. в Москве объявляет конкурс грантов на исследование, организацию круглых столов
и конференций на 2012 г.
Предпочтение будет отдаваться
новаторским коллективным проектам с международным участием, которые предлагают новые
объекты, источники и подходы к исследованию и планируют проведение круглых
столов или конференций, публикацию монографий и статей. Это не исключает из рассмотрения
индивидуальные проекты в сфере франко-российских, франко-украинских или
франко-белорусских исследований.
Максимальный срок
финансирования – два года. Грант Франко-российского центра составляет до 4000 евро
в год. Финансирование на второй год продлевается не автоматически. В случае двухгодичных
проектов их координатор или координаторы должны будут по завершению первого
года представить промежуточный отчет о результатах с предложением о продлении. Центр
изучит этот отчет и по его материалам примет решение, будет ли продолжено
финансирование на второй год и в каком объеме.

* Программы Фулбрайта ориентированы на выпускников российских вузов, аспирантов, ученых, деятелей искусств, преподавателей, работников библиотек, музеев, архивов, сотрудников международных отделов российских университетов.
* Программа Фулбрайта предоставляет гранты на обучение, проведение научных исследований, чтение лекций и стажировку в любом университете, библиотеке, архиве США. Гранты присуждаются по итогам открытого конкурса по всем специальностям.

Program Description Up to 600 fellowships are granted annually to postdoctoral scholars interested in conducting their own research projects in Germany. Scholarships are awarded for 6-24 months.

Citizenship No citizenship requirements.
Eligibility Requirements Must hold a PhD or equivalent degree. A good command of the German language is required for scholars in the humanities and social sciences. Decisions are made exclusively on the basis of academic achievement.
Stipend Monthly stipend of 2,250 EUR. Additional support is available for travel, accompanying spouses, health insurance, and language courses.
